I used to feel similarly, but vim inside emacs is pretty sweet. The emacs package "evil" gives almost perfect vim emulation. Suddenly the entire emacs ecosystem is available to anyone who knows vim. And the ecosystem is massive.

As a vim user who's yet to learn emacs...

Try spacemacs. It's really good. Most advanced vim stuff works as well as or better than in vim.
