It's human nature. If your identity is defined by your kung fu and a technology is about to obsolesce your kung fu, then all logic goes out the window as you go all out in protecting your identity. It's mostly for themselves. They have to lie to themselves and tell themselves that they still "matter".

I've been doing martial arts for more than 20 years, some in TMA, some in modern boxing/kickboxing. I have yet to meet an "out of touch Kung Fu master" in person. Nobody thinks they can clear the bar or win in a ruleset they haven't trained for. I mean I don't deny Frank Dux, George Dilman, and the DUST guy exist, nor do I support their claims. It's just that they are larger-than-life personalities to start with and I haven't met them in person.

Similarly, most of the programmers skeptical about AI---me included---don't really do so out of a threat to a domain we've mastered. The problem is, models, to this day, need supervision so they understand requirements, so they know where to properly look for prior art, so that they "understand" the existing architecture. That includes you, Claude. Our kung fu has been six months away from obsolescence since roundabouts 2022 and in 2026 they even rehired a bunch of out-of-touch kung fu masters.

The out of touch kung fu masters are all retired or close to it. They continue to shout about their big bet on AI as loudly as possible to protect their egos and, as a last ditch effort, whatever money they threw in.

After all, everyone who is mid-career and younger cannot possibly be a master of anything. Of course they're using AI at work, but that is an extremely far cry from the AI actually helping. They use it because it's shoved down their throats and they don't want to rock the boat. Working extra hours from home is the perfect way for everyone to save face.

In other words, the older generation is delusional. Nobody is surprised except the older generation.

At best we won't watch AI generated movies or read AI generated books. But everything else it will take over, like it or not.

You can't justify your own cheating by presuming and accusing everyone else of cheating. In a medium light slows down. Particles in the same medium can travel faster than the slowed down light. But nothing ever breaks the barrier of C.

Ai is slaughtering the identities of everyone around it. Years of skills, dedication and experience rendered useless by a genuinely superior AI.

So what do people do? They have to deny it. They have to make up stories, they have to lie to themselves. Normally HN is all about being data driven and logical. But you can see here that with AI this isn’t the case.

When your identity is about to be eviscerated all logic goes out the window. I deal with it by having no identity. I never placed pride in anything.

If you think the past always predicts the future then you are wrong. When predicting the future you must look at more than the past and use common sense and the situation at hand.

AI is categorically a different beast than all of the technology of the past. This is obvious. To assume that it will have the exact same outcomes as past technology is an exercise in stupidity.

Also to assume that AI as it is now is the final state and astronomical improvement in the future won’t happen is also an exercise in pure stupidity.

AI is a tipping point, a paradigm shift. I don’t know the future but it is the first technology that can potentially answer yes to every single question on that comic strip.

This is the wrong direction. We do want Ai to be biased we want ai to be extremely socially biased.

This is because humans are biased. We need AI to fit our own biases.

The predominant bias of humanity today is that all races are equal. All demographics are equal. Nothing is further from the truth. All observable evidence points to difference in wealth, intelligence personality and behavior.

There are differences. We do not fully know what causes these differences but they exist. The prevailing feel good view is that these differences are entirely cultural and NOT genetic. But we have no evidence of this either and logic implies this is not true given that genetics determines different looks and sizes we shouldn’t by logic expect that genetics makes all else equal. The reality is not what people want to believe and for someone to make decisions based on race because of actual observable IQ differences is not something society wants or respects. Humanity hates this.

So given this. We actually want AI to be biased. We want AI to have the same exact biases we have. We want equality. We want AI to have the same narratives about reality that we have.

Humanity hates it among other reasons because it's very probably false.

True. But if it tells the cold hard truth we will also hate it and believe it is lying.

It needs to be trained to give us what we want to hear. What we perceive as truth is often far from the actual ground truth.

Ironically the reinforcement training is already training it to give us exactly what we want to hear.
