In the SFBA, Lockheed hires welders who can get a security clearance.
Someone I know was in their 70s working there, because there isn't a large pipeline of welders to pull from. In his words, "there's a bunch of great guys with steady hands delivering doordash, because it pays better than being an apprentice in a body shop".
Most automotive welders can't get a clearance, the true factory welding jobs no longer pay well or are automated away.
In response, the old Martinez chevrolet factory welders are continuing to work in Lockheed with larger than normal incentives to stick around past their medicare and social security pay.
Most of them would rather be training new guys (or girls, apparently half of the good new welders are women), but most of the time there's nobody new who comes in.
This has arguably been happening with all fields since the beginning of time.
Mere literacy used to qualify you for a management role. I am not sure you could get a job of any kind without being able to read and write now. It gets replaced with more time spent in specialized education.
That's not a real problem. There are established models for training people to work in fields, where you need plenty of experience to qualify for an entry-level position. Medicine is the most prominent example.
And it's going to be easier than in medicine, because software is so forgiving. You can do real work during training with minimal supervision, as mistakes rarely cause serious harm.

The correct thing to do is to not do it at all. If text is 3rd-party supplied, treat it like an opaque byte sequence. Alternatively, pay a well-trained human to do it by hand.
All other options are going to result in edge cases where you're not handling it properly. It's like trying to programmatically split a full name into a first name and a last name: language doesn't work like that.
Thank you for this universal approach. I can now toggle capitalization on/off for any character, instead of just being limited to alphabetic ones!
Jokes aside, I was kinda hoping for a good answer that doesn't rely on a Windows API or an external library, but I'm not sure there is one. It's a rather complex problem when you account for more than just ASCII and the English language.
I would look at what you could buy off the shelf before building it yourself. I know some of the guys at Rygen.com and they're building some great logistics software. I don't work there or have any financial interest in it myself.
Pretending to take payment information is out what playbook? Selling things that don't exist is common or selling things that don't exist yet is common but pretending to take payment is weird. In fact, I'd burn that card.
I checked and they don't validate card information, which is at least something. I didn't bother to look at what the site is doing because if the fake info I put in was flagged, I would have already known. I assume they're collecting and storing contact info.
lol, what are you talking about? they do give a date. and the date given is so absurdly soon that they couldn't possibly hit it even if they got millions of $ in orders.

You're agreeing with the comment you're replying to. The parent comment is saying the "playbook" doesn't say to give a date, and they've given one so absurdly soon that it's impossible to hit. The "get signups for a fake product" is out of the playbook, promising it 4 months from now when it doesn't exist at all is not out of the playbook.

I always wonder about the health effects of beaming energy to earth on the people near the beam. What keeps the beam narrow to the just the intended collection point? The article states it's microwaves and that doesn't sound healthy to be bombarded by microwaves. Is there something here that I'm missing about how they're transmitting the energy?
They claim it will be such a wide beam that it won't matter (multiple square miles of beam per city).
I haven't done the math, but it sounds wrong to me too. It would be nice if they provided actual wattage in the same units that are currently used for consumer devices, like cell phones.
Microwaves are fairly harmless, I'd be more worried about disrupting the ozone layer or other weird climate effects.
You manage the beam intensity by having the collection area and the exclusion zone around the collection area be so large that the whole thing is entirely pointless and you could just use regular PV and concentrating solar.
